Alupro cuts unnecessary work and costs by ditching calendar-based IT replacements with SavannaX

Key highlights
The continuous calendar-based device replacement cycle was creating unnecessary work for Alupro. With SavannaX, Alupro can easily view the status of all workstations from a single dashboard and assess investment needs based on actual device condition 3-6 months in advance. SavannaX also simplifies management work for someone who is not a deep IT expert, which was one of the reasons for choosing the service. Additionally, the company emphasizes that extending the lifecycle of devices is an environmental action, and with reliable condition data, lifecycle extension can now be done safely.
Alupro started using SavannaX in November 2025. We asked IT Manager, Heikki Raumanni about the benefits after the first three months of use.
What challenges did you previously face in workstation lifecycle management, and how did SavannaX solve them?
Heikki: We had been using leasing devices for a long time, and as part of the organizational restructuring, responsibilities were redistributed among existing employees. The goal of the change was to make IT management as effortless as possible. The leasing model had become difficult to manage, especially when it was unclear which devices were located where and who was using them if the external system had not been updated. It made little sense to keep replacing devices and peripherals according to fixed leasing cycles, as this created unnecessary work and a constant replacement loop. Through discussions about SavannaX, the idea emerged that device lifecycles could be predicted better and real replacement needs assessed more accurately. We have many different types of users, and lifecycles have ranged from 2 to 6 years. SavannaX allows me to easily see in a single dashboard what the devices' condition is. I can clearly identify which devices genuinely need replacing based on their overall condition, and that helps me plan investments. The service provides a well‑summarized view of the status of Alupro's devices. It makes management easier and simpler for someone who isn't an IT expert, which is exactly why we made this investment.
You already had a device agent in use. How does SavannaX differ from a standard device agent?
Heikki: With normal agents, you can't clearly see when devices should be replaced or what actions they require. Now I can see which devices need replacement within 3‑month and 6‑month time frames - something our previous agent could not provide.
Which new features would be useful for you?
Heikki: If changes happen in the agent - for example, a device is removed or a new one appears - it would be helpful to receive immediate notifications. A list of removed, offline devices would also be useful, so we could track devices that are no longer in service. The total number of employees might stay the same, but new devices may have been added and old ones retired. A comprehensive view of new and old devices would support invoice monitoring. A user list showing changes, for example, when someone leaves the company, would also be beneficial.
What have you gained from SavannaX that you didn't expect in advance?
Heikki: I can't think of anything unexpected. The service met our expectations, and the biggest added value for us is ensuring that devices are in good condition and won't be replaced unnecessarily. Now we can invest in new devices at appropriate intervals.
What are the best benefits for your role and daily work (IT Manager)?
Heikki: In addition to the benefits already mentioned, we've noticed things like devices being left on without being restarted. Information like this is very helpful, as I can easily remind users to reboot their computers. I also get ready‑made action points from the service.
Was there anything where SavannaX did not meet your expectations?
Heikki: I've struggled a bit with old data and with determining at what point I can trust that a device is no longer online. One retired device that went to recycling still appears in the service, and it makes me wonder whether it's still connected to the Internet. A separate list of "offline" devices would make this easier.
Is there something you would tell someone who is still considering using SavannaX?
Heikki: I would highlight that IT device emissions have a significant impact on business, and extending lifecycles reduces CO₂ emissions. Companies should consider whether older devices could still be used internally in other roles, thereby extending their lifecycle. SavannaX helps safely extend device lifecycles with reliable condition data, without compromising usability. Companies should calculate the payback: is it worth accepting a slightly slower device and a bit of waiting time, compared to the benefit of longer lifecycles? This likely varies by user role.
Background
The first meeting between SwanIT and Alupro took place in June 2025, and discussions on device lifecycle management began even before the official release of SavannaX. Conversations continued during the launch in autumn 2025, when the benefits and additional value of the service were presented in more detail. The advantages were quickly recognized, and the service was adopted in November 2025.
